A traditional school of Bharatanatyam in the heart of Bengaluru, guiding students from their first tatta adavu to the sacred stage of arangetram.
Rooted in the lineage of her gurus, every adavu and mudra is taught the way it was passed to her — slowly, faithfully, hand to hand.
A two-hour solo margam — alarippu through tillana — performed before guru, family, and the divine. Every journey unique. Every one a first.
Every performance offered as worship — the stage becomes a sanctum, the dancer a vessel. Yato hastastato dṛṣṭi — where the hand is, the eyes follow.
A Masters in Performing Arts (Bharatanatyam) from Pune University, Deepali performed her arangetram in 1994 under Guru Smt. Manik Ambike and went on to train under Guru Smt. Sucheta Chapekar, Acharya Parvati Kumar, Sir C.V. Chandrashekhar, Dr. Kanak Rele, and Smt. Vidhya Subramaniam.
Nadanam was founded with one quiet conviction: that a student who learns to bow to the floor before each class will, in time, learn to bow before the universe.
Yato hastastato dṛṣṭi
yato dṛṣṭistato manaḥ
yato manaḥstato bhāvo
yato bhāvastato rasaḥ.
Where the hand is, the eyes follow. Where the eyes are, the mind goes. Where the mind goes, feeling arises. Where feeling is, rasa is born.
My daughter walked into Nadanam at six, shy and uncertain. She walked off her arangetram stage, ten years later, knowing exactly who she was. That is what Deepali ji teaches.
There is rigour here, and there is great love. Both, equally. I have learned classical dance from many teachers; only one has taught me how to listen to the music with my body.
Nadanam holds the lineage with care. Every adavu is taught the way my own guru would have taught it. As a parent who is also a dancer, that means everything.
Trial classes are held on the first Saturday of every month. Tell us a little about the student — age, prior training, and what draws them to Bharatanatyam. We'll write back within a day.
